Whoever you are, wherever you start from, I feel your pain. Actually, I don’t mean that I feel it as such, but that I connect with it, understand it. As your coach in overcoming social anxiety, I’ve been there, felt the misery and come out to self-acceptance and ultimately, self-love. A psychiatrist once asked me, “If you can’t see yourself as equal to other people, can you compare your self-worth with an animal?” I know, right!!! I replied “Well, less than a dung beetle.” He just looked at me in horror, and I felt validated in my opinion of myself.
Today, I feel at peace with myself in a realistic way, without wanting myself to be perfect. Although I continue to work on my weaknesses, I don’t see them as proof that I am intrinsically worthless.
